Telugu Language
Telugu is a Dravidian language. It is the official language of the southeast Indian state of Andrah Pradesh.
Telugu has several regional dialects, in addition to three social dialects: Brahman, non-Brahman, and Harijan (Untouchable). The spoken dialects of Telugu are separate from its formal, literary language. This separation is known as “diglossia.”
Telugu had approximately 70 million speakers in the late 20th century.
