Laotian Language
Lao (also called Laotian) is one of the Tai languages of Southeast Asia. It is the official language of Laos.
Like other Tai languages, Lao words are usually monosyllabic; differences in pitch are used to distinguish between words that otherwise have the same pronunciation. Most polysyllabic Lao words are taken from Cambodian and Pali.
Lao has also been influenced by Standard Thai, the national language of Thailand. Like Thai, written Lao uses a script of Indic descent.
