Polynesian Language
Polynesian is a language group which consists of about 30 languages. It belongs to the Eastern, or Oceanic, branch of Austronesian (Malayo-Polynesian) language family.
The Polynesian languages are closely related to the Micronesian and Melanesian languages.
Polynesian is spoken by roughly 1 million people throughout the Polynesian Islands on the Pacific Ocean. The most widely known Polynesian languages are Samoan, which is spoken by about 200,000 people; Maori, spoken in New Zealand by about 100,000 people; Tahitian, with an indetermine number of speakers but widely spoken in French Polynesia as a lingua franca; and Hawaiian, of which only a few native speakers remain, but at one point spoken by as many as 100,000 people.
