Papiamentu (also called Papiamento) is an Iberian-based Creole language. It is spoken in Netherlands Antilles in Curaçao, St. Maarten, the Bonaire Islands off Venezuela coast, and islands off Nicaragua. It is also spoken in Aruba, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. There are more than 320,000 Papiamentu speakers worldwide.
The amount of Papiamentu speakers is different on each island. It is not widely used in St. Maarten, and even less so on Saba and Satia.
