Mirandese Language
Mirandese (lhéngua mirandesa; in Portuguese: língua mirandesa) is a Romance language of the Indo-European language family. It is spoken in a small area in northeast Portugual, located in the Miranda do Douro municipality. It is recognized as the co-official language of the region, along with Portuguese.
Currently, Mirandese has up to 15,000 speakers, however, less than 5,000 are native speakers.
In the 19th century, ethnographer Jose Leite de Vasconcelos described Mirandese as “the language of the farms, of work, home, and love between the Mirandese.”
